Japanese investments in Malaysia to create 1,280 jobs

The Malay Mail Online reported yesterday that “Japanese companies operating in Malaysia are not only expected to continue reinvesting here but also make the country the base for conducting regional and global operations.”

In light of this issue, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) will be working closely with its Japanese counterparts to promote business-to-business relations between Japan and Malaysia.

The report also stated that MIDA had approved 36 manufacturing projects from Japan for the first eight months of 2016 with an investment of RM1.05 billion. These projects are expected to create an additional 1,280 job opportunities for Malaysians.

Following a dialogue session between International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, the Embassy of Japan, Japanese Chamber of Trade and Industry Malaysia, and Japanese External Trade Organisation yesterday, MIDA commented: “About 86% of this investment came from expansion and diversification activities of existing Japanese companies operating in the country.” Some of these companies are Rohm-Wako Electronic, Nippon Electric Glass, Cosmo Scientex and Polyplastics Asia Pacific.

Meanwhile, “Japan continues to remain Malaysia’s top source of foreign direct investment in the manufacturing sector since 1980” as reported by Bernama.

In fact, a total of 2,602 manufacturing projects with Japanese participation as at 2015 were implemented with investments of RM85.0 billion and had generated 342,837 job opportunities.
