Half of bosses struggle to fill roles

If you are finding it hard to recruit this year, you’re not alone.

In a ManpowerGroup Talent Shortage Survey, 47% of local employers admitted to having trouble finding staff with the right skill set.

This figure is higher than the global average of 35%, prompting 54% of Singaporean bosses to indicate they should re-look at their work models.

The report found the hardest jobs to fill are in office support, supervisor roles, labourers, drivers and sales representatives.

While a majority of local respondents will be looking at redesigning their operational model, 41% said they will invest more in improving their talent pipeline.

Globally, Japan displayed the highest percentage of employers struggling to fill roles (85%), followed by Brazil (68%), India (61%), Turkey (58%) and Hong Kong (58%).

The hardest roles to fill worldwide are skilled trade workers, engineers and sales representatives, accounting and finance, and management and executive roles, unchanged from 2012.

Manpower’s The Great Talent Shortage Awakening report also found companies globally are starting to take a closer look at their HR strategies, including identifying and attracting untapped talent, and creating a culture of development, in order to remain competitive.
