The latest hike brings short- and long-haul surcharges up by 50% and 41.7% respectively from April's levels.
China’s major airlines have announced a further increase in fuel surcharges for domestic flights, effective 16 May 2026.
Under the latest adjustment, the fuel surcharge for routes of up to 800 kilometres (short-haul) has risen from RMB60 to RMB90 per adult passenger. For routes exceeding 800 kilometres (long-haul), the surcharge has increased from RMB120 to RMB170.
The revised charges apply to flights operated by Air China, China Southern Airlines and its subsidiary Xiamen Airlines, as well as China Eastern Airlines and its subsidiaries Shanghai Airlines and China United Airlines.
Fuel surcharges for international routes will continue to be based on the actual calculations by the system.
This latest increase follows a significant adjustment on 5 April 2026, when domestic fuel surcharges saw a sharp sixfold rise. The current revision then represents a further increase of 50% for short-haul routes and 41.7% for long-haul flights.
