The expanded assistance now covers 15 basic product categories and 140,000 items, while more neighbourhood shops are being added to make spending easier.
More Malaysians are set to receive a little extra help with daily expenses this month, as the Government rolls out the RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) assistance to around 2.2mn adults nationwide.
As of Monday (9 February 2026), households will stand to receive multiple assistance depending on the number of eligible adult members. For instance, a family of four with two adults, for example, could receive RM400 under the SARA for All credit, on top of any monthly support they qualify for.
The scheme is also being expanded to reach more communities. Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Department monthly assembly in January, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said new registrations would include small traders such as grocery shop operators, helping rural residents who may not yet be in the system.
Based on public feedback, the list of eligible purchases has also grown. Frozen food has been added, bringing the total to 15 basic categories and covering about 140,000 products.
To make access easier, the Government aims to increase the number of participating small retail shops to 10,000 by the end of 2026, while reducing the average distance to the nearest store from 10km to 7km.
The Ministry of Finance has also urged recipients to stay alert for scams, noting that it will not request personal information via SMS or WhatsApp. Credit status and updates are available only through the official SARA portal.
