Faces of HR: Unlocking the IR 4.0 culture code with Godrej Agrovet’s Megha Goel

Mumbai-based, Godrej Agrovet’s Head of HR Megha Goel explains to Priya Veeriah the importance of aligning cultural expectations with leadership to drive business goals.

Q What type of culture will help organisations succeed in the Industrial 4.0 disruption?

The impact of technological, demographic and socio-economic disruptions on business models will have a profound impact on the employment landscape and skill requirements.

HR will need to get into active partnering with the business to ensure proactive and innovative skill building (learning agility will be a key differentiator), talent management (no excuses on diversity will be accepted now), and employee centric policies (flexibility and customisation will be the norm).

Q How do you manage disconnected talent and help them believe in your organisation’s goals?

People only find something meaningful if they find a fundamental alignment with organisational values and purpose. HR professionals should leverage inspiring leadership to help them reflect and connect their work with the organisation’s larger purpose and their personal values.
Successful organisations hold their line managers directly responsible and answerable for attraction, engagement, development and retention of talent.

"People leave managers, and not organisations" - what is your response to this?

Totally agree that managers help an organisation bring its culture to life and employees experience an organisation through their managers. This is even more true with employees spread across geographies.

Successful organisations hold their line managers directly responsible and answerable for attraction, engagement, development and retention of talent.

Q In the next 20 years, how will culture change as we engage in a digital-based economy?

The digital-based economy will be all about multi-dimensional and high agility. Thus, culture will become a key differentiator to drive superlative performance, build an emotional connect and maintain competitive advantage.

As such, organisations will have to give due thought to create a culture which gives employees a clear sense of direction in line with their business strategy.
