Dell confirms jobs cuts after merger with EMC

Dell EMC has confirmed an undisclosed number of job cuts post-merger, a company source told trade publication CRN.com.

A Dell spokesperson confirmed the layoffs via an email seen by CRN.com. He refused to provide the exact number of jobs that will be eliminated and to elaborate on which business units or facilities might be affected.

"The number is not material to Dell Technologies’ headcount of approximately 140,000. As is common with mergers of this size, there is a need to manage some overlapping job functions. We hope to minimize the impact on jobs and expect that revenue gains will outweigh resulting cost savings, with revenue growth driving future employment," the spokesperson said via email.

In mid September, reports on Dell planning to eliminate up to 3,000 jobs surfaced, after announcing the acquisition of data storage solutions provider EMC on September 7.

Although Dell has remained silent on the details of the job cuts,  The Register claims that the majority of the jobs will be shed at EMC’s former headquarters in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.

Hitachi data systems technology strategist / evangelist Greg Knieriemen shared on Twitter that jobs cuts at Dell is far from the what their spokesman described as "not material".

He twitted there are massive layoffs at Dell and EMC’s former headquarters in Hopkinton is like a graveyard.
