With a rise in relocation of Millennial for jobs, it is important to also take into account their amenity and location preferences when allocating housing to your employees.
According to the Cartus Millennial vs. Boomer Real Estate Survey, Millennials and baby Boomers both prefer homes located closer to town and with newer construction.
However, that's as far as the similarities go. The survey found that Boomers (8%) are five times less likely to prioritise smart home technology as compared to Millennials (45%).
Similarly, Boomers are also two times less likely to want a home with a special fitness room, as compared to the Millennials.
On the other hand, Millennials (9%) are eight times less likely to look for homes with first floor master suites as compared to Boomers (79%).
Millennials (8%) are also less likely to prioritise the ability to house family members for extended stays when looking for a home as compared to Boomers (22%).
Overall, Millennials would prefer an ecologically friendly home with an upgraded kitchen, complete with smart home technology. While Boomers would prefer a home with a first floor master suite, an upgraded kitchen and a finished basement.
"The Millennial versus Boomer survey provides a fascinating look into the implications of an up and coming generation as it gains prominence in the housing market as first-time homebuyers with needs distinctly different from Baby Boomers,"Â Gerry Pearce, executive vice president, Broker and Affinity Services for Cartus said.
