Bizarre HR: Six vacancies for the “best job in the world”

Do you have what it takes to be the ‘Chief Funster’ and earn $100,000 for a six-month contract?

If so, you can now apply for one of six once-in-a-lifetime jobs with Tourism Australia, who are on the lookout for someone who likes sun, sea, surf and adventure.

The ‘Best Job in the World’ competition – which is back following the success of the worldwide contest to find a ‘caretaker’ for Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef in 2009 – is open to anyone who finds job titles like, ‘outback adventurer’ and ‘ taste master’ appealing, Reuters reported.

The successful applicants will each be offered a six month contract and a $100,000 (S$128,000) salary package.

The ‘outback adventurer’ will be responsible for “getting up close and personal” with wildlife, as well as immersing themselves in the indigenous culture and eating traditional bush tucker.

The ‘park ranger’ will protect and promote Queensland’s native plants and animals, while also patrolling the beaches and “checking the water temperature”.

As a ‘wildlife caretaker’ on Kangaroo Island in South Australia, the successful applicant will look after kangaroos, swim with dolphins and cuddle koalas. This role, however, will also mean you come face-to-face with great white sharks.

Talented photographers and feature writers only can apply for the position of ‘lifestyle photojournalist’ for Time Out Melbourne, who will be required to photograph cafes and bars as well as major festivals and music events.

If you’re all about the food, the role of ‘taste master’ in Western Australia requires you to “eat your way around the state” touring the best wineries, restaurants, pubs and breweries.

And finally, the ‘chief funster’ in New South Wales will live like a VIP in Sydney, reviewing festivals and events and travelling throughout the state as a social media commentator.

Applicants can go to the Tourism Australia Facebook page or their main website to apply, where you need to submit a 30-second video explaining why you’re the right person for the job.

Anyone above 18 can apply as long as they are legally allowed to work on a business visa in Australia.
