The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (BTMU) has announced new senior appointments to help the business strengthen its Asia HR function.

Yvonne Corpuz, formerly the general manager of the bank's Asian human resources office (AHRO), has assumed the newly-created role of global chief learning officer, where she is tasked with establishing the global talent development function.

"She will lead this function to develop a holistic global learning and development strategy that effectively leverages global leadership programmes and creates integrated learning solutions to build organisational capability that is aligned with business priorities," a statement read.

Assuming Corpuz's position as general manager of AHRO is John Gerard Williams, a seasoned international HR practitioner with almost 30 years of experience in financial services.

Williams has responsibility for the human capital strategy in BTMU's Asia region, which incorporates more than 8,000 staff in 18 countries in Asia.

"As Asia continues to be a key investment destination for international corporations and investors seeking growth opportunities, we see a need to further strengthen our HR Leadership to enable our business to further expand and develop" said Go Watanabe, CEO for BTMU Asia & Oceania region.

"A key component to succeed in this diversified and emerging region is to have a capable and engaged workforce.

"Together, Yvonne and John bring a powerful combination of experiences in human capital management."

Williams will be based in Singapore for this new role, while Corpuz will divide her time between Tokyo and Singapore.
