Are Singaporeans still unhappy in their jobs?

Just under a year ago, Gallup ranked Singapore the least emotional country in the world, with only 2% of local workers feeling engaged at their jobs.

However, in the nine months that have passed since Gallup published those results, a new report commissioned by Cats Recruit has found a majority of employees here are happy at work.

The Straits Times reported 70% of Singaporean workers are happy with their current workload, career prospects, development and working hours, and are likely to remain in their roles for another five years on average.

This is also a stark difference from the results of another survey by Accenture earlier last year, which found 76% of Singaporean employees were dissatisfied with their jobs.

Cats Recruit’s survey, which polled 1,003 workers between the ages of 15 and 59, also found distinct differences in job motivators.

More than 40% of workers aged 18 to 34 said a higher pay was the biggest thing to make them happy at work, with 19% of those in this demographic admitting a higher pay will motivate them to take on more challenging assignments.
