Tropical Cyclone Narra: Low chance of tropical cyclone warning signal in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is expected to experience showers and squally thunderstorms over the next couple of days under the influence of an active southerly airstream.

The Hong Kong Observatory has said there is a relatively low chance of issuing a tropical cyclone warning signal, as Tropical Cyclone Narra is expected to remain some distance away from Hong Kong.

According to the latest forecast, Tropical Storm Narra was centred about 290 kilometres west-southwest of Haikou. The storm is expected to move slowly, lingering over the vicinity of Beibu Wan, and skirting the western coast of the Leizhou Peninsula today and tomorrow.

Unless Narra moves closer to the Pearl River Estuary, the likelihood of the city requiring a tropical cyclone warning signal remains relatively low.

However, under the influence of an active southerly airstream, Hong Kong is expected to experience showers and squally thunderstorms over the next couple of days. Winds will also be occasionally strong offshore and on higher ground.

The Observatory has advised members of the public to stay alert.
