A flexible attitude towards career progression now a norm in Vietnam: Survey

Most respondents consider job transitions a regular aspect of their employment journey, it was highlighted.

A study in Vietnam has highlighted the significant shift in the Vietnamese employment landscape and unveils the increase in fluidity and willingness of individuals to explore new job opportunities.

These are the key findings that were gathered from Michael Page’s Talent Trends 2023 report, titled The Invisible Revolution, and released on 1 August 2023:

  • Nine in 10 Vietnamese employees surveyed, who started a new job in 2022 are open to new opportunities – A flexible attitude toward career progression is now the norm, with most individuals considering job transitions a regular aspect of their employment journey.
  • As observed by May Wan Chan, Regional Director, Michael Page Vietnam, 95% of the respondents are open to considering new opportunities as they are now looking for a more comprehensive work package: attractive salaries, flexibility, career growth, frequent recognition and a work culture that aligns with their values in a range of areas, including sustainability, and diversity, equity & inclusion.
  • About 54% of the population are more likely to seek a new job when the economic environment deteriorates – Following a surge in career migration during and post-pandemic, individuals now prioritise seeking employment opportunities that align with their personal ambitions and contribute to their envisioned work-life balance.

Keeping the above in view, the report noted that despite a very open-minded base of talent in the market, the candidate-driven dynamics in Vietnam will only intensify, with pressure on companies to stand out with their job advertisements and create more compelling employee value propositions based on what matters most to the talent market.

The threat of high turnover will be a permanent fixture in the new talent era, it was added.
