5 in-demand tech roles in the ICT and banking sectors

In Q2 2017, JobTech found a net increase of more than 1,000 unique online jobs across nine key labour sectors - a 6% increase in online jobs when compared with 1Q 2017.

Among the nine key sectors (information and communications technology (ICT); banking and finance; electronics and semiconductor; biotech and pharmaceuticals; government; energy and chemicals; marine and offshore; healthcare; and logistics), JobTech revealed that banking and finance and the ICT sectors were, the top contributing sectors of the online jobs growth in 2Q 2017. Collectively, the sectors contributed to more than 50% of total online jobs growth recorded across the nine key sectors in Singapore.

In line with that, here are the five most in-demand technology job roles in the two sectors.

1. Data scientist/analystPercentage of tech job roles: 20%Technical skills sought by employers: data analytics, SQL, database management

2. Cross-platform developerPercentage of tech job roles: 12%Technical skills sought by employers: programming, Java, SQL

3. Data controllerPercentage of tech job roles: 7%Technical skills sought by employers: data analytics, SQL, database management

4. IT infrastructure specialistPercentage of tech job roles: 7%Technical skills sought by employers: troubleshooting, project management, cloud infrastructure management

5. IT business analystPercentage of tech job roles: 6%Technical skills sought by employers: programming, system implementation, risk management

Collectively, these roles accounted for more than 50% and 45% of all technology jobs posted by the banking and finance and ICT sectors respectively.

The analysis also identified the fastest growing technical skills across the nine sectors scanned by JobTech. These included objective-C, SASS, PLC programming, SWIFT, and API creation.
