2016's top recruitment and retention strategies

As competition in the talent market tightens, the challenge for HR practitioners to bolster their recruitment & retention activities intensifies.

Successful programmes that draw and retain quality candidates, spread cost savings and heighten workplace productivity are those that commit to effective leadership and innovation.

HR leaders and talent acquisition specialists reveal how it is done at Talent Management Asia 2016, Asia's leading HR strategy conference.

“To enhance candidate outreach and employee satisfaction, organisations are encouraged to utilise new tools for innovation and apply proven practices in the industry,” said Aditi Sharma Kalra, regional editor of Human Resources magazine.

“Those will be revealed at Talent Management Asia through its global thought leadership sessions and tracked streams that will provide delegates deep-dive knowledge of the topics.

Now in its 4th year, Talent Management Asia will explore the most pressing issues organisations and HR practitioners are currently facing today. Here is how one of the topics, recruitment and retention strategies, will be presented at the event.

Chen Fong Tuan, head of talent management at Maybank, will deliver a case study presentation that will delve into best practices in recruiting the right talent.

His discussion covers ways on how to identify the right talent pool internally and externally, how to use social media effectively in recruitment and how to manage the cross-culture and multi-generational workforce.

In addition, a case study presentation by Monir Azzouzi, head of performance & development at Maxis, will zero in on the implementation of an effective learning and development programme as an employee retention technique.

He will demystify the use of remuneration, incentives and benefits as retention strategies and stress the importance of developing a sound appraisal system.

In a panel discussion, delegates will get industry insights on using social media as a recruitment tool and staff engagement strategy.

A pertinent issue that will be analysed during the discussion is the impact of candidates’ online activities on hiring decisions and employee evaluation. Another hot topic for debate is the use of social media for background checks.

A breakout stream on recruitment and retention will explore systems and principles that are imperative to a successful employee retention strategy. This session will look beyond benefits package as a factor to retain employees. Ways to measure workforce needs and other talent management strategies that retain high-performing individuals will also be examined.

Also included in the programme is a case study presentation on the use of talent data analytics to attract talent and achieve a high level of employee engagement and retention.
