Following the wins, Maribeth Espinosa, Managing Director, FedEx Philippines, chats with HRO to share how her team focused on their people strategy that allowed them to clinch their winning title.

Q. What was the motivation that sparked your passion & business case for pursuing your outstanding people strategy?

Our passion for our people strategy at FedEx Philippines is deeply rooted in our People-Service-Profit (PSP) philosophy. This guiding principle emphasises that when we prioritise our employees, they, in turn, deliver outstanding service to our customers, driving profitability and business growth. The business case for our strategy is clear: by investing in our people through continuous development, fostering an inclusive workplace, and recognising individual contributions, we create a thriving, motivated workforce that is essential for achieving our organisational goals. Our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and opportunity (DEI&O) further strengthens this strategy, ensuring that every team member feels valued and empowered to contribute their best.

Q. Looking back, can you share a challenge that you overcame in your journey of HR excellence? How did you triumph?

One significant challenge we faced was the relocation of most of our gateway operations to Clark. This move required careful planning and seamless execution to avoid disrupting our operations and impacting our employees. We overcame this challenge through timely and comprehensive communication with all team members, ensuring everyone was aware of the changes and what it meant for them. We provided support and resources to facilitate the transition, maintaining morale and minimising disruption. The success of this move is a testament to our commitment to our people and our ability to adapt to changing needs while continuing to deliver excellence.

Q. Beyond the recognition, what impact do you hope your feature in the HR Excellence Awards would have on the HR community and manpower landscape?

We hope that our feature in the HR Excellence Awards inspires other organisations to prioritise DEI&O and innovation in leadership. By sharing our journey and the success of our people strategy, we aim to encourage a broader focus on building inclusive workplaces that support diverse talents.

We believe that by leading by example, we can drive positive change within the HR community, promoting practices that not only enhance business performance but also contribute to a more equitable and inclusive personnel landscape.

Q. Could you share some advice you would give to others aspiring to follow in your footsteps?

My advice to those aspiring to achieve HR excellence is to always put your people first. Embrace the People-Service-Profit (PSP) philosophy and understand that a committed, well-supported team is the foundation of any successful organisation. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and be open to innovation. Most importantly, focus on building an inclusive workplace where every employee feels valued and has the opportunity to thrive. When you invest in your people, they invest in your business, driving success and growth.

Q. Let's talk inspiration! Who has been a driving force behind your success?

The driving force behind our success at FedEx Philippines has been our collective commitment to the Purple Promise — to make every FedEx experience outstanding. This promise reflects our dedication to our customers and our relentless pursuit of excellence in everything we do. Our leadership team, inspired by this promise, continuously encourages innovation, fosters a supportive and inclusive workplace, and empowers every team member to contribute to our shared success.
