In his new role, Yu will concentrate on improving work processes and driving efficiency, as well as fostering communication and collaboration among departments.
Kelvin Yu (pictured above) has been onboarded at Yan Oi Tong (YOT), one of the six largest full-service charity groups in Hong Kong, as Controller (Human Resources, Information Technology and Administration), effective August 2024.
In his new role, Yu’s core responsibilities involve leading teams across human resources, information technology, administration, and engineering, where he is concentrating on improving work processes to enhance effectiveness and driving efficiency through the implementation of new technologies and streamlined procedures.
In addition, he will strive to foster communication and collaboration among departments to support the organisation’s goals and mission.
Yu reports directly to Chief Executive Officer of YOT, Kenny Chiu.
Prior to joining YOT, Yu has held several significant senior HR leadership roles across different industries, at companies including TOD'S Group, Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, LG, and, most recently, PURE Group.
Sharing exclusively with HRO, Yu says gaining a comprehensive understanding of the NGO industry will be his top priority for the coming year.
“I intend to leverage our existing resources to foster greater synergy within my team and enhance overall efficiency. Additionally, I will focus on developing my team members and supporting them in reaching their full potential, ultimately driving our mission forward.”
Talking about the top talent concern in Hong Kong, Yu takes note of the competition for attracting and retaining skilled professionals. This, as he believes, may be felt particularly strongly in the NGO sector, where the private sector often offers more appealing compensation packages.
“To address this, employers should enhance their value proposition by providing competitive salaries and benefits, investing in professional development, and offering flexible work arrangements,” he highlights.
“Additionally, cultivating a strong organisational culture that emphasises inclusivity and recognition is vital for improving employee satisfaction. By creating an environment where employees feel valued and engaged, organisations can effectively attract and retain top talent in this competitive landscape.”
