Up the ranks: Chen Fong Tuan joins Berjaya as Group Human Resources Director

In this role effective 11 October 2021, Chen's #1 priority will be to pivot the firm's people strategy and innovation, in line with its enterprise-wide transformation agenda.

Effective 11 October 2021 (Monday), Chen Fong Tuan (pictured above) has taken on the role of Group Human Resources Director at Berjaya Corporation, a Malaysian conglomerate. Chen was most recently Country HR and General Affairs Director, Samsung Malaysia.

In this role, while continuing to be based in Malaysia, Chen will oversees all of Berjaya Corporation's businesses local and overseas, including those in Asia Pacific, Europe and the Americas.

Human Resources Online caught up with Chen for exclusive insights into what this new role entails.

Q What are the core responsibilities in your new role?

I will be responsible for the Group’s people practices, policies and strategies to build a high-performance culture. This includes strengthening the Group’s talent bench through equipping and reskilling to create a future-fit workforce.

I will also lead the people transformation agenda that is aimed at pivoting Berjaya Corporation into a diverse, equitable and inclusive organisation that thrives on innovation and change.

Q In this role, what is your number one priority for this coming year?

Pivoting the people strategy and innovation, in line with the enterprise-wide transformation agenda.

Q What is the number one talent concern in your country and in your industry at the moment?

Effectively turning around the corner post-pandemic and retaining top talents, as revenge job hopping becomes more prevalent as the economy continues to improve.
