Up the ranks: Agnes Tan takes the people and culture helm at NUS

With nearly three decades of HR leadership experience across APAC, North America, and Europe, Tan brings deep expertise in organisational transformation, leadership development, and workforce strategy.

After leading people and talent strategies across multinational businesses across Asia Pacific, North America and Europe, Agnes Tan (pictured above) has taken on a new chapter in higher education as Chief People and Culture Officer at the National University of Singapore.

In her new role, Tan will work with NUS leaders and teams to advance the university’s people and culture strategy, with a focus on fostering an inclusive, high-performing community in support of NUS’ mission.

Tan brings close to 30 years of people and culture experience across the Asia Pacific, North America and Europe, having held senior HR leadership roles across industries including retail, hospitality, logistics and technology. Her career has spanned organisational transformation, leadership development, succession planning, and workforce strategy across large, complex organisations.

She joins NUS from VF Corporation, where she spent more than nine years as Vice President, Human Resources and VF Academy, Asia Pacific. During her tenure, she led HR across the region and supported the development of talent and leadership capabilities for the global apparel, footwear and equipment company, whose brands include The North Face, Vans, and Timberland.

Tan also served as Vice President, Human Resources, VF APAC Region and Interim Global HR Leader for Vans, where she helped align people strategy with business and operational priorities for one of VF’s core brands.

Before VF Corporation, Tan was Head of Human Resources, Asia at Lendlease, where she led HR across the region for the international property and infrastructure group. Earlier in her career, she held several senior HR roles at Tyco, including Vice President, Human Resources for Global Tyco Fire Protection Products, APAC HR Leader for ADT Security, and Global Leadership and Talent Development Centre of Excellence Leader.
