According to THE, Malaysia's leading institution improved in all five areas underpinning the ranking – teaching, research, citation impact, industry income and international outlook.

As for Singapore, the National University of Singapore (NUS) holds onto the overall number one spot after improving its scores in almost all areas. There is also success for Hong Kong, which has three universities in the top 10 - University of Hong Kong (4th), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (5th), and Chinese University of Hong Kong (7th).
