Union continues push for MAS boss' resignation

Malaysia Airlines' (MAS) biggest union body continues to call for the resignation of the airline's CEO Jauhari Yahya.

The union is also expecting to be consulted on restructuring plans, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported.

"We know why they want to restructure, but we have not seen the plan so far," Alias Aziz, the union's president, told WSJ. "Our priority is staff welfare."

In June, the union demanded Jauhari step down from his post after flight MH370 went missing while travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March. There were 239 passengers and crew on board.

The airline was again hit by tragedy when flight MH17 was allegedly shot down last month as it was flying over Ukraine airspace, killing all 298 people on board.

In May, Jabbarullah Kadir, the union's executive secretary, told AFP: "Their business plan to turn around the airline hasn't worked. For us they totally failed to carry out their duty."

MAS hasn't responded to any media queries, but are expected to announce a possible delisting in early August.
