You're on your way to work. You're tired and cranky. You decide a coffee from Starbucks would perk you up.
You enter the shop, place your order, and tell the tired-looking staff member that your name is "Rebecca" (unless your name isn't Rebecca - that would be weird.)
You stretch. Yawn. Then you hear, "Double vanilla latte for Rebecca!" yelled over the throngs of twitchy people awaiting their caffeine fix.
"That's me!" you say with a smile, as you grab your pick-me-up and glance at the cup to make sure its yours.
But wait. That's not your name. That's not even close.
Who the hell is "Reebeekah"? (I'm not even kidding. I've even just had "Reeb" and one time "Racquel", but mostly people just seem to call me "Rachel". No, I don't know why either.)
Yep, Starbucks are often lambasted for spelling people's names wrong on their coffee cups. Just read this story about what they accidentally called a woman named "Virginia". Eek.
Now, one "employee" has come forward to explain why the baristas so often get your name wrong. It's hilarious, and will probably make you feel better about being called "Pole" instead of "Paul" (even if the video isn't actually real...)
Warning: A teensy bit of NSFW language
t=162"When I hear a customers name, I immediately think, 'How can I spell this name in an obnoxious way that will infuriate and perplex them?'"
"For example, instead of writing "Chris", I'll write "Khris". It's a small change, but people still hate it."
