The 10 highest rated CEOs of 2016

Chief executive offficers (CEOs) might be overpaid today, but sometimes it's all for a good reason.

And the biggest proof of this is when employees themselves give positive ratings to their bosses. For instance, Bain & Company’s CEO Bob Becheck.

Becheck was voted the best CEO in the United States as found in a new rating by Glassdoor.

The ranking was based solely on the input of employees who voluntarily provide anonymous feedback, by completing a company review, on whether they approve or disapprove of their CEO, along with insight into their job, work environment and employer over the past year.

The results found Becheck received an employee approval rating that topped 99 percent.

The list, which featured business leaders in North America and parts of Europe across diverse industries, spanning technology, consulting, travel and more, found Ultimate Software’s Scott Scherr taking second place.

McKinsey & Company’s Dominic Barton closely followed in rankings.

“The Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards honor CEOs that stand out for having gained the support and approval of their workforce - no easy task for any leader,” said Robert Hohman, Glassdoor CEO and co-founder.

The list was determined using a proprietary algorithm, which took into consideration the quantity and consistency of Glassdoor-approved company reviews shared by US based employees.

The top 10 include:

  1. Bob Bechek (Bain & Company)
  2. Scott Scherr (Ultimate Software)
  3. Dominic Barton (McKinsey & Company)
  4. Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook)
  5. Jeff Weiner (LinkedIn)
  6. Marc Benioff (Salesforce)
  7. Sundar Pichai (Google)
  8. Tim Cook (Apple)
  9. Joseph R. Sivewright (Nestlé Purina PetCare)
  10. Jim Whitehurst (Red Hat)
Although the top 50 compromised of mostly men, four women CEO’s made the list.

These included In-N-Out Burger’s Lynsi Snyder at no. 17 with a 95% approval, as well as Staffmark’s Lesa J. Francis at no. 28 with a 94% approval.
