Thailand's labour minister rolls out accelerated labour relief measures for disaster-hit southern provinces from Dec 2025 to May 2026

Trinuch Thienthong, Minister of Labour, said that this measure will reduce Social Security Fund contribution rates for six months and aims to help employers and insured persons in the nine disaster-affected provinces reduce overall expenses by approximately THB1.4bn.

Thailand's Cabinet has approved the Ministry of Labour’s Ministerial Regulation to reduce Social Security Fund contributions for employers and insured persons in disaster-hit areas.

As announced by Minister of Labour Trinuch Thienthong, from December 2025 to May 2026, Social Security Fund contribution rates for employers and insured persons will be reduced in nine southern provinces affected by disasters, namely:

  1. Trang
  2. Nakhon Si Thammarat,
  3. Narathiwat,
  4. Pattani,
  5. Phatthalung,
  6. Yala,
  7. Songkhla,
  8. Satun, and
  9. Surat Thani.

Under Section 33 of the Social Security Acr, insured persons and employers will have a reduced monthly contribution rate from 5% to 3% of the insured person’s wages, while the government contribution remains unchanged at 2.75% of wages per month. For Section 39 covering insured persons, the monthly contribution will decrease from THB432 (based on a wage base of THB4,800) to THB283.

Minister Trinuch added that through this measure, employers and insured persons in the nine disaster-affected provinces will be able to reduce their overall expenses by approximately THB1.4bn.

Further, reduced contributions will also allow insured persons to support their recovery from severe flooding, ease financial pressures, and stimulate local economic activity during the six-month period.

She elaborated that for employers, the reduction will lower operating costs, improve liquidity, and assist in restoring establishments affected by the disaster.
