Starbucks’ policy of writing customer’s names on their coffee cups has backfired spectacularly for a woman called Virginia.
The coffeehouse chain has found itself in the headlines again after an employee misspelled the customer’s name as “Vagina”.
The affected customer’s sister posted a rant on Starbucks Hong Kong’s official Facebook page, detailing how Virginia received her drink at one of the local stores with her name erroneously scribbled on the cup.
The post also indicated this was not Virginia’s first time having her name spelled incorrectly on a Starbucks drink – she had previously been called “Virgin”, and her sister was clearly not having any of it.
“Every Starbucks experience for her has been coupled with fear and anticipation. But THIS is just UNACCEPTABLE. Starbucks HK, you have to buck up or just not spell your customer’s name anyway. It is a derogatory attitude even if it is unintentional. What do you have to say about this?” the message read.
The rant has since been deleted.
Attempts to reach both Starbucks Hong Kong and Singapore have been unsuccessful.
There are several websites dedicated to documenting misspelled names on Starbucks’ drinks, including “Isabella” being spelled as “Ezibella”, “Paola” as “Poo”, and our personal favourite, “Angry” instead of “Ingrid”.
