Schneider Electric to open Asia Sustainability Competency Centre in Singapore

A key component of the Centre will be the Sustainability Leadership Programme, which will see participants undergoing on-the-job training and development activities on a rotational basis.

Schneider Electric has announced plans to establish a Sustainability Competency Centre (SCC) for Asia in Singapore. In partnership with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), this S$7mn initiative marks an important milestone as Schneider Electric commemorates its 50th anniversary in Singapore this year, the company said.

The SCC is scheduled to open by June 2023 and will be housed within Kallang Pulse – Schneider Electric’s East Asia headquarters in Singapore.

The centre aims to meet the growing demand for sustainability solutions and talent by equipping talent with deep industry knowledge and technical expertise to develop and execute effective strategies. It will also serve to anchor Singapore as a global hub for sustainability leadership and innovation, by driving R&D in sustainability services. This includes conceptualising ways to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) commit to their emission reduction goals.

Sustainability leadership programme

As further shared, the company's Sustainability Leadership Programme will be a key component of the SCC.

With an aim to develop the next generation of industry experts in Asia, the programme will be open to fresh graduates and early-career talent with up to five years of experience. Participants will undergo a structured two-year rotational programme offering development activities, exposure to leadership and on-the-job training where they will be involved in actual projects to co-innovate and implement sustainability programmes for organisations.

The programme intends to hire and train 50 people for a start, with priority given to Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents.

Overall, it was shared, the establishment of the SCC affirms Schneider Electric’s ongoing commitment to accelerate global sustainable action.
