Prince William to take two weeks of paternity leave

Prince William is leading the way for modern dads the world over.

In a show of modern fatherhood, the Duke of Cambridge is the first senior royal to be approved for paternity leave following the birth of his son.

Prince William, who welcomed his first son to wife Kate Middleton – the Duchess of Cambridge – yesterday, will take two weeks’ paid paternity leave from his full-time job as a helicopter pilot in the Royal Air Force.

He will receive his full salary during his time off, AP reported.

Statutory paternity leave was introduced in the UK in 2003, which entitles fathers to two weeks of paid paternity leave and up to 26 weeks’ additional paid leave if the child’s mother returns to work.

According to the Daily Mail, the Duke is understood to not want any special treatment following the birth of his son, despite him being very much in the public eye.

He will return to work at RAF Valley in Anglesey, Wales, as soon as his leave period is up.
