PERKESO and 7-Eleven Malaysia join forces to help injured workers return to employment

The partnership will provide PERKESO Return to Work participants with training, workplace exposure, and potential job opportunities, aiming to help them rebuild confidence and re-enter the workforce after injury or health setbacks.

Employment can play an important role in helping individuals regain independence and confidence after a workplace injury or health-related setback.

With this in mind, Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial (PERKESO) and 7-Eleven Malaysia have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at supporting the rehabilitation and workforce reination of individuals under PERKESO's Return to Work (RTW) Programme.

The collaboration was formalised through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Pusat Rehabilitasi Neuro-Robotik dan Sibernik Kebangsaan PERKESO (PRNRSKP) in Meru, Perak, attended by representatives from both organisations.

Under the partnership, RTW participants will gain access to pre-employment training programmes, practical workplace exposure, workforce readiness initiatives, and potential employment opportunities within 7-Eleven Malaysia's retail operations.

As Malaysia's largest convenience store chain, with more than 2,700 outlets nationwide, 7-Eleven Malaysia's extensive network is expected to provide participants with opportunities closer to their homes. This could help reduce barriers to workforce participation while offering a familiar working environment as they transition back into employment.

Building confidence through employment

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Annuar bin Zaini, Chairman of 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Berhad, highlighted the role employment can play in an individual's recovery journey.

According to him, recovery extends beyond physical rehabilitation and includes rebuilding confidence, dignity, and the ability to participate meaningfully in society.

He noted that the collaboration aims to create pathways for individuals to rebuild their lives through employment while reinforcing the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity for a second chance.

Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Annuar also said: “It is a commitment to creating meaningful impact where we can. We are honoured to work alongside PERKESO in helping individuals transition from recovery to employment, enabling them to regain their independence and contribute meaningfully to society once again."

From rehabilitation to workforce participation

Under the collaboration, PERKESO RTW participants will have access to pre-employment training programmes, practical workplace exposure, workforce readiness initiatives, and potential employment opportunities within 7-Eleven Malaysia's retail operations.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in areas such as customer service, product management, and day-to-day retail operations, helping them develop practical skills that can support their long-term employability and career development.

To support participants throughout the programme, 7-Eleven Malaysia has committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive workplace environment. Participants will receive onboarding support, workplace guidance, supervision, and ongoing assistance during their placement journey in close collaboration with PERKESO.

Both organisations said the initiative is designed to provide more than short-term workplace exposure. By offering real-world experience and structured employment pathways, the programme aims to create sustainable opportunities that support long-term self-sufficiency and economic participation.

This marks the first formal employment-focused collaboration between PERKESO and 7-Eleven Malaysia. Both parties aim to welcome the first cohort of RTW participants before the end of 2026, with plans to progressively expand the programme to additional locations and participants nationwide.
