MOM finds no fraud in former Sumo Salad worker’s injury claim; parent company EatGreen warned over insurance gap

The Police will take no further action against the former employee, while the designated insurer processes the compensation claim under WICA.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) have completed their investigations into alleged cheating and a fraudulent work injury compensation claim involving a former employee of EatGreen Pte. Ltd., which operates Sumo Salad.

The Police found no evidence to suggest that the former worker had committed cheating. After considering the facts and circumstances of the case, the Police, in consultation with the Attorney-General’s Chambers, will not be taking further action against the individual.

Separately, MOM found no evidence of fraud in the former worker’s work injury compensation claim. The claim will therefore be admitted and processed by the designated insurer under the Work Injury Compensation Act (WICA).

The insurer had reimbursed the employer in June 2025 for medical costs and medical leave wages incurred for the work injury up to that point. It will continue to cover the eligible compensation benefits under WICA.

EatGreen’s work injury insurance covered only two employees

During its investigations, MOM reviewed EatGreen’s work injury compensation insurance coverage and found that while the company had insurance for the former worker’s claim, its policy covered only two employees.

The policy did not cover the remaining employees who were required to be insured under WICA. MOM said it has since issued EatGreen a stern warning over the lapse.

The WICA provides financial support to workers who suffer work-related injuries or occupational diseases, while safeguarding employers’ interests through due process and capped compensation limits.

The framework also allows employers and employees to raise objections before a claim is settled, giving both parties the opportunity to present their case before decisions are finalised.

MOM said it takes the integrity of the framework seriously and will not hesitate to take action against those responsible for false or misleading claims, or attempts to circumvent the system.

Employers and workers who require assistance with work injury compensation matters have been urged to approach their designated insurers or contact MOM at MOM_OSHD@mom.gov.sg.
