US tech conglomerate Microsoft announced on 1 March that it is appointing Hou Yang as CEO for its Greater China operations.
Yang comes to the role well credentialled. He is former senior executive from Qualcomm – most recently as senior VP of its semiconductor business – prior to which he spent five years based in the US at research firm McKinsey as a leader in its tech practice.
He will lead Microsoft’s sales, marketing and operations organisation in China and will succeed Alain Crozier as chairman and CEO for Microsoft Greater China when he steps down from the role on 1 July.
“Hou Yang is a proven transformational leader, bringing strong technology industry ecosystem partner development capabilities, as well as local insight to enable customers," said Ahmed Mazhari, president for Microsoft Asia.
“He is an experienced business leader across operations, product optimisation and sales with a track record in partner and customer engagement. He brings a balanced combination of strategic thinking and execution discipline.
