Mark Zuckerberg, the overachieving founder of Facebook, has found a new way to blow our minds. With language.
Apparently, the guy can speak Mandarin. Like, really quite well. Well enough to conduct a 30-minute on-stage discussion for students at Tsinghua University in Beijing, and well enough for everyone in the audience to be positively ecstatic about his new-found skills.
Despite a friend of mine saying he speaks Mandarin like "a 10-year-old", I am pretty impressed. I'm also mildly annoyed (but only because I keep having flashbacks to that time I promised myself I would learn Mandarin and never did) but I'm mostly just happy to see a leader who sets a goal and sticks to them - even if it took him four years.
Yep, Zuck is rather good at setting himself specific goals for each year, and back in 2010 his goal was to learn Mandarin. His other goals have also included not eating meat unless he killed the animal himself, and meeting someone new every day.
He has also said that he and his wife Priscilla, who is Chinese American, try to only speak Mandarin at home and with her family to practice.
So, in case you weren't feeling like enough of an inadequate underachiever, here's a clip from the panel:
