Malaysia to re-evaluate MCO in light of sharp increase in cases

This decision, shared by PM Muhyiddin Yassin, comes as a result of indicators from the early warning system, HIDE (Hotspot Identification by Dynamic Engagement).

On Labour Day, Malaysia's Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin put out a media statement saying that the Government will re-evaluate the existing Movement Control Orders (MCO), particularly in the states that are experiencing a sharp increase in COVID-19 positive cases. This reassessment, he noted, is important to ensure that the SOPs are in effect and that actions are being taken to curb the increasing transmission of COVID-19.

PM Muhyiddin added that the early warning system, HIDE (Hotspot Identification by Dynamic Engagement) are been used to identify areas or premises at risk of contributing to the transmission of COVID-19. These premises will be ordered to close if it is detected that they have been visited by a large number of those who were COVID-19 positive.

He added: "This approach is in line with the government’s decision to control and curb the transmission of COVID-19 infection in a targeted manner. Through this system, monitoring is done daily to identify high-risk public locations.

"I urge the public to always abide by the SOPs set as well as avoid being in a cramped place and overcrowding, in order to to protect oneself, family and society from the COVID-19 infection."
