Malaysia to pilot Progressive Wage Policy from June to August 2024

The pilot implementation period of the policy will target 1,000 companies, expected to cover 1.05mn workers.

The pilot implementation period for Malaysia's upcoming Progressive Wage Policy is expected to last from June to August 2024, Minister for Human Resources Steven Sim has shared. The Human Resources Ministry will be running this in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy.

The policy will target 1,000 companies via engagements, expected to cover 1.05mn workers. A total of RM50mn has been allocated to this project.

The white paper on this policy proposal was initially presented by Minister of Economy Rafizi Ramli in the Dewan Rakyat on 30 November 2023 as one of the government's strategies is to increase the average salary of workers; and in the Dewan Negara on 14 December 2023.

The policy aims to reform the wage structure of workers by increasing it systematically, while complementing the existing policies — namely, the Minimum Wage Policy and Productivity-Linked Wage System.
