The platform brings together more than 80 international AI standards that aim to help organisations adopt artificial intelligence safely, ethically, and in line with global frameworks.
Malaysia launched the MY-AI standards platform on 10 March 2026 (Tuesday), marking a new step in the country’s efforts to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) governance and support its ambition of becoming an AI Nation by 2030.
In a Facebook post, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo described the launch of MY-AI standards as an important milestone in Malaysia’s journey to becoming an active contributor to global AI governance and standards.
According to Minister Gobind, the platform serves as a central access point to more than 80 key global AI standards developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).
The initiative was developed through a strategic collaboration between the National AI Office (NAIO), CyberSecurity Malaysia, and the Department of Standards Malaysia, with support from ISO.
Minister Gobind said the platform is not merely a digital portal or an information archive. Instead, it functions as a "trust infrastructure" that acts as a practical instrument for the development and implementation of AI standards in Malaysia.
Through the implementation of structured standards, the government aims to ensure that Malaysia remains at the forefront of adopting, governing and developing safe, ethical and sustainable AI.
With the establishment of MY-AI Standards, Malaysia also continues to strengthen its aspiration to emerge as an AI Nation by 2030. Minister Gobind said the goal is to become a nation that not only develops and uses AI, but also contributes to the advancement of trusted AI standards globally.
Supporting organisations in implementing AI standards
As reported by Bernama, the MY-AI standards functions as a national digital platform that acts as a one stop centre for learning, collaboration and support for the implementation of AI standards in Malaysia.
Cited in the report, Minister Gobind said it was created to help stakeholders including the public sector, industry players, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and academic institutions understand and implement international AI standards more systematically and practically.
This approach seeks to ensure that technological innovation continues to develop in line with key principles such as safety, ethics, transparency and reliability.
The initiative also supports the Malaysia AI Action Plan 2026 to 2030, which focuses on accelerating AI adoption in strategic sectors, developing national AI talent and strengthening responsible technology governance.
Progress expected within the next 12 months
Bernama further reported that the government expects the country’s AI standards framework to show clear progress within the next 12 months.
Ministry Gobind said the development of the framework is crucial to ensure that AI technologies used in the country are safe, ethical, and aligned with existing laws, as the technology continues to influence a growing number of sectors.
Quoted in the report, he explained that the framework will consist of three key components: standards development, regulation and compliance, and legislation and enforcement.
The first phase will focus on developing AI standards through the involvement of industry experts to establish sector-specific guidelines, without initially requiring dedicated legislation.
This will be followed by regulatory and compliance measures, before moving on to the legislative component involving enforcement.
The process is expected to take time as it will involve coordinating multiple stakeholders and establishing institutions capable of supporting the country’s AI ecosystem.
"Leadership in Al is not just about cutting-edge technology, but about building trust in the country's digital ecosystem through strong governance and adherence to internationally recognised standards," he was quoted as saying.
