Malaysia citizens reminded to check on their travel and passport status before travelling

If individuals are travelling to Sabah or Sarawak, this will depend on the authority of the prevailing state laws and regulations, JIM added.

Malaysia's Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia, or JIM) has reminded all Malaysia citizens to check on the status of their passport application and travel before leaving the country.

If travelling to Sabah or Sarawak, this will then depend on the authority of the prevailing state laws and regulations, JIM added.

Malaysia citizens may head to the electronic 'travel status check' system to do so.

In line with this, JIM has also re-capped a guide for individuals looking to renew their Malaysian passports online. In brief, all passport renewal arrangements throughout the country must be made through the online system, except for new passport applications, senior citizens, the disabled, children under 13, pilgrims, students, and PMAs who have been damaged/lost.

Applicants with fingerprint problems can still proceed with the application until the payment process, and the applicant can go down directly to the selected collector's office for their fingerprint retrieval.

  • Approval through this online system can be obtained within three working days through a notification sent to the applicant's e-mail, and the applicant can appear at the collector's office if not notified after that period. This online PMA renewal can be accessed here.
  • The public is also invited to join the official telegram channel for passport applications via this link.

A full guide, as previously covered on HRO, can be found here.
