Lubrizol expands Singapore innovation centre with new labs

The expanded Jurong facility will strengthen regional R&D capabilities, while a new STEM programme aims to give students hands-on learning and career exposure.

Lubrizol, a global provider of specialty chemicals, has expanded the laboratory capabilities at its Southeast Asia Innovation Centre in Jurong, Singapore, as part of its latest efforts to strengthen regional innovation and technical development.

According to a press release issued by the company, posted on the Economic Development Board (EDB)'s website, the Singapore-based centre forms part of Lubrizol's global innovation network and is designed to support collaboration and the development of market-relevant solutions for Southeast Asia and beyond.

The latest enhancements build on laboratories, testing facilities, immersive experience zones, and dedicated technical training spaces already launched at the centre.

The expanded capabilities cover synthesis, analytical and physical sciences, as well as formulation development. They are intended to support work across sectors including energy storage, coatings, electronics, packaging, life sciences and healthcare.

Established with support from EDB, the Southeast Asia Innovation Centre serves as a regional platform for customer collaboration, scientific innovation and technical advancement.

Julie Edgar, Chief Technology Officer, Lubrizol, said the expanded technical capabilities would help the company respond to increasingly complex challenges faced by customers.

"Customers need innovation partners who can move with speed, insights with depth and market relevance."

She added that the centre's technical capabilities would help translate scientific expertise into commercial solutions and support customers in moving from innovation to market impact.

Lubrizol launches Learning Labs Singapore

Alongside the laboratory expansion, Lubrizol is launching Learning Labs Singapore, a STEM education initiative aimed at inspiring future scientists, engineers and innovators.

The programme will provide students with hands-on learning, mentoring and opportunities to explore potential careers in STEM.

The Singapore chapter builds on Learning Labs programmes launched globally in 2025. According to Lubrizol, the initiative has engaged more than 12,000 students through more than 50 STEM learning experiences worldwide.

Henry Liu, Vice President, Asia Pacific, Lubrizol, said talent development, alongside innovation, would be an important part of the company's longer-term growth. The Singapore programme, he said, aims to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and problem-solvers.

EDB highlights talent development

The latest milestone was commemorated by Lubrizol's global leadership, including Rebecca Liebert, President and CEO, Julie Edgar, Chief Technology Officer, and alongside employees, customers and industry partners.

Lim Wey-Len, Vice President, EDB Executive attended as Guest of Honour.

Lim said Lubrizol's decision to expand the centre reflected its confidence in Singapore's innovation ecosystem and the country's role as a platform for connecting with regional customers.

She also pointed to the Learning Labs initiative as a way to support the development of future talent for Singapore's specialty chemicals sector.

"The establishment of Lubrizol's Learning Labs will also nurture the next generation of talent for Singapore's growing specialty chemicals sector."
