Labour Day Golden Week: Hong Kong to enhance cross-border transport arrangements

閱讀中文版本

The Transport Department has urged cross-boundary travellers to rely on public transport when travelling between Hong Kong and the Mainland or Macao during the holiday rush.

The Mainland’s Labour Day Golden Week, running from 1-5 May 2026, is approaching, with Hong Kong employees on a five-day workweek also set to enjoy a long weekend.

To cope with the anticipated surge in travel, Hong Kong’s Transport Department (TD) has coordinated with local and cross-boundary public transport operators (PTOs) to strengthen their services during the holiday period, enhancing convenience for residents and visitors.

Special transport arrangements include:

  • MTR East Rail Line services between Admiralty and Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau Stations will be strengthened at different times from 30 April to 5 May.
  • Train services on the Hong Kong Section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link between Hong Kong West Kowloon and Futian Stations will be enhanced from 30 April to 3 May, with 13 additional pairs of trains (26 trips) operating daily.
    • On 4 and 5 May, one additional pair of trains per day will run between Hong Kong West Kowloon and Futian stations, and between Hong Kong West Kowloon and Shenzhenbei stations respectively.
    • On 30 April and daily from 5 to 7 May, one additional pair of temporary sleeper train services between Hong Kong West Kowloon and Beijingxi stations will also be added.
  • Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) shuttle bus (Gold Bus) frequency will be increased to an average of about one minute during peak hours, if needed.
  • Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang cross-boundary shuttle bus (Yellow Bus) frequency will be increased to an average of about two minutes during peak hours, if needed.
  • Cross-boundary coach quotas will be increased to strengthen services.
  • Frequencies of local franchised bus B routes connecting various land-based boundary control points (BCPs) will be increased to a level higher than that of normal weekends.

The TD anticipates heavy passenger and vehicle traffic at land-based BCPs during the holiday period. Cross-boundary travellers are advised to use public transport when travelling between Hong Kong and the Mainland or Macao, plan their journeys early, allow sufficient travelling time, and avoid peak periods where possible.

Meanwhile, the temporary link bridge connecting the HZMB Zhuhai Port and Qinglu South Road has been closed to all traffic, which may affect traffic flow at the Zhuhai Port and nearby roads.

Special traffic arrangements may also be implemented at the Lok Ma Chau BCP and the Shenzhen Bay Port, subject to actual traffic conditions, to ensure smooth access for public transport vehicles. Cross-boundary private cars may experience longer waiting times during peak periods.

Members of the public and visitors can check the latest updates on land-based BCPs via the “Easy Boundary” platform or the HKeMobility mobile app or website.

According to the Immigration Department, an estimated 6mn passengers are expected to pass through Hong Kong’s sea, land, and air control points during the Labour Day Golden Week. Passenger flows at the Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau Spur Line, and Shenzhen Bay control points are forecast to be heavy, with average daily volumes of around 246,000, 227,000, and 172,000 passengers respectively.
