The declaration comes following a recommendation by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, expanding the country’s 2026 public holiday calendar.
Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared 20 March 2026 a regular holiday throughout the country in lieu of the upcoming Eid'l Fitr celebrations.
According to the Presidential Communications Office on 13 March 2026, the declaration follows the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), which earlier proposed either 20 March 2026 (Friday) or 21 March 2026 (Saturday) as a national holiday in observance of Eid'l Fitr, subject to the sighting of the moon, to allow the entre Filipino nation to join their Muslim peers in observing the festivities and celebration.
“Now, therefore, I, Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Friday, 20 March 2026, a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid'l Fitr (Feast of Ramadan),” Proclamation No. 1189 read.
This adds to the line-up of regular holidays, special non-working days, and special working days previously detailed in the Philippines’ 2026 public holiday calendar, following the issuance of Proclamation No. 1006 by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
