Indian startup Acko extends medical benefits to partners of LGBTIQ employees

In a step towards achieving equality at the workplace, India-based insurtech company, Acko has extended its group medical insurance cover to include the partners of their LGBTIQ+ employees.

This enables Acko’s employees from the LGBTIQ+ community to declare their same-sex live-in partners to be able to avail benefits inclusive of hospitalisation, health returns, and health assessment.

Acko has also created a gender-neutral POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) policy that extends coverage to all LGBTIQ+ employees and not only cis-gendered men and women.

Ruchi Deepak, Managing Director of Acko, noted the company wishes to embrace its DNA of being a new-age digital company across all aspects. "We are committed to driving genuine diversity and inclusion in the workplace where everyone feels included and respected," she added.

A company statement shared: "Acko is consciously working towards developing the best HR practices and creating a strong work culture that encourages employees to give their best for the company. Actively hiring, the company is an equal opportunity employer where gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity do not matter."

Through its efforts, Acko has secured a spot in “Linkedin Top Startups—Hottest Indian Companies to Work for Now” two years in a row (2018, 2019).
