IBM layoffs underway globally in Q4 2025 as workforce strategy reshaped by AI

"In the fourth quarter we are executing an action that will impact a low single-digit percentage of our global workforce," an IBM spokesperson told Human Resources Online.

Tech company IBM has confirmed that it will lay off a percentage of its workforce in Q4 2025, to make way for AI integration to its workforce strategy.

In a statement to Human Resources Online, an IBM spokesperson said: "IBM’s workforce strategy is driven by having the right people with the right skills to do the work our clients need. We routinely review our workforce through this lens and at times rebalance accordingly.

"In the fourth quarter we are executing an action that will impact a low single-digit percentage of our global workforce."

Per the company's 2024 Annual Report, there are just over 270,000 employees on the rolls across 175 countries prior to this announcement.

According to IBM's third quarter financial results, expectations for revenue, profit, and free cash flow had been exceeded, whereby Arvind Krishna, IBM Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, had stated: "Given the strength of our business, we are raising our full-year outlook for revenue growth and free cash flow.”

According to Reuters, IBM has said that while some US employees may be affected by the job reductions, employment in the country is anticipated to remain roughly the same year over year.

Other major employers, including Amazon and Nestlé, have also announced workforce adjustments in recent months, reflecting broader trends across industries.
