HREA 2015 jury welcomes Microsoft, Rolls-Royce and Dow

Asia’s most respected awards celebrating excellence in human capital strategy and execution, the HR Excellence Awards, has added new names to the awards jury.

Human Resources has confirmed that highly-regarded heads of HR from CIMB, Dow Chemical, DHL, Microsoft and Rolls-Royce have joined the 60-strong international awards judging panel.

"The HR Excellence Awards jury consists of genuine HR industry leaders who represent international organisations and well-respected companies in Asia," said Aditi Sharma Kalra, regional editor of Human Resources.

"By the time they are announced, HR Excellence Awards winners would have gone through a rigorous evaluation process based on high standards and have truly proven their capabilities and commitment to excellence."

Here are some of the judges:

Datin Rowena Florece, human resources director of Microsoft, is responsible for designing and executing the global technology company’s strategy and approach in the areas of leadership, talent and culture.

She completed her Masters of Management in the Philippines, started out her career in talent acquisition before holding general management roles before moving into HR.

As an HR professional, Florece has held HR roles at UTSB Management of the Usaha Tegas Group, Hong Leong Group and Andersen Consulting.

CIMB’s director of IB recruitment & graduate programmes, Sophia Kim, specialises in recruitment and recruitment system implementation.

In her position, she runs the recruitment function for CIMB Investment Bank and manages both experienced senior level and graduate recruitment.

Kim, who has over 20 years of experience in HR and a business graduate from University of Ottawa in Canada, has worked with Astro, Ernst & Young, Arthur Andersen and PwC.

Butch Clas, Dow Chemical’s human resources director for ASEAN, ANZ and India, carries more than 27 years of HR experience and has worked in multiple markets including Switzerland, Spain, China and Singapore.

His career as an HR generalist spans the developing economies of Central & Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa while he has worked as a compensation & benefits and & talent management specialist in China in a merger & acquisitions environment.

DHL’s head of human resources, Chuah Chan Hoon, possesses expertise in change management, organisation and HR development as well as HR management covering all HR specialisations such as talent management, sourcing, learning & development, compensation & benefits and business partner management.

Chuah is a graduate of Bachelor of Science with Education (Hons), major in Mathematics and minor in Physics from University of Malaya.

She has over 20 years of experience with exposure to major industries such as oil & gas, logistics & maritime, hi tech manufacturing, utilities, telecommunications and business solutions integrators.

With over 20 years of experience in HR, Ang Cham Lark, HR director at Asia Pacific at Rolls-Royce, has gained experience in compensation & benefits, employee relations and employment framework in the media, advertising, banking and logistics industries.

Before joining Rolls-Royce, she headed the development of the HR function in the APAC region for an oil & gas engineering company. Today, she leads a high-performing team working across a diverse and complex region covering 13 countries.

Some of the other companies represented on the HR Excellence Awards jury are Boral, Facebook, Kimberly-Clark, UMW Group, USG Siemens, and many more.

All judges, such as Zarina Piperdi, senior vice president of human resources at SIA Engineering, are director or vice president level HR professionals with regional responsibility.

Open only to in-house corporate HR teams, the HR Excellence Awards this year will celebrate high achievement in 23 categories which cover HR strategy, compensation & benefits, learning & development, corporate social responsibility, employee engagement, diversity, employer branding, leadership development and many more.

As always, the HR Excellence Awards are judged solely by an esteemed jury of over 60 regional heads of HR from around Asia, making the HR Excellence Awards the only HR awards in Asia based on a peer review system.
