How to renew your Malaysia passport online via MyOnline Passport

The service is currently only available for renewal applications, not for first-time applications or cases of lost or damaged passports.

The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) has shared an update on the steps that Malaysians can follow in renewing their passports via MyOnline Passport.

The portal is currently only available for renewal applications, not for first-time applications or cases of lost or damaged passports.

Details are as follows:

Steps to apply via MyOnline Passport

1. Visit the official website: www.imi.gov.my

2. Fill out the application information:

  • Full name as in MyKad
  • MyKad number
  • Old passport number
  • A valid email address
  • Select the Immigration branch for passport collection

3. Upload your most recent photo:

  • Plain white background
  • No head accessories (unless for religious reasons)
  • No glasses
  • Clear image resolution
  • Taken within the last six months

4. Pay online using FPX, debit card, or credit card. Current payment rates are:

  • RM200 (ages 13 to 59)
  • RM100 (ages 60 and above)
  • Free for persons with disabilities (with supporting documents)

5. Keep your payment receipt for review and reference during collection.

6. Collect your passport at the Immigration office. Bring along:

  • Original MyKad
  • Old passport
  • Payment receipt (digital or printed)
  • Disability letter (if applicable)

The usual turnaround time is one working day, subject to location and image approval.

JIM affirmed that the online system aims to streamline the process and allows applicants to save time before visiting the Immigration office to collect their passports.
