How DHL, Fonterra, Honeywell, Mattel use total rewards to drive talent strategy

To maximise the impact of a total rewards strategy on workforce performance, organisations are encouraged to clarify their priorities and align their strategies to business objectives.

Distinguished HR executives and compensation and benefits specialists will reveal how it is done at Employee Benefits Asia, the region’s biggest conference dedicated to compensation and benefits.

Employee Benefits Asia 2016 is a two-day conference happening in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia in August.

Here is how one of the topics, total rewards strategy, will be presented at the event.

In his keynote address “Crafting an effective total rewards strategy that drives business excellence,” Christopher Ong, managing director at DHL, will emphasise the importance of offering flexible benefits that are faithful to employees’ needs and preferences.

Apart from trends and challenges in structuring total rewards, Ong will look into solutions and strategies that can make reward programmes cost effective and results-oriented in terms of performance improvement.

The leaders’ panel discussion “Determining challenges and capitalising on opportunities of total rewards in Asia Pacific” will specify the effects of key trends on total rewards, particularly on economic outlook, salary adjustment, C&B costs, and workforce needs.

The panel, composed of Andrew Ng, HR director at Fonterra, Sow Chat Gan, Asia Pacific benefits director at Honeywell, and Christopher Ong, managing director at DHL, will lay down the alternatives for total rewards strategies as well as new innovations in the field.

They will also gather C-level perspectives on how total rewards can be utilised as a management tool.

Gordon Bedford, global director environment for health & safety and corporate social responsibility at Mattel, will, in his presentation “Creating effective total rewards strategies in boosting employee motivation,” explain why the traditional SMART objectives are no longer effective today.

Bedford will uncover the best practices in designing work and benefits that reinforce employee motivation and how to achieve business excellence through customised rewards programmes.

For employers who want to maximise their total rewards budget, Adnan Lee, managing director at MBG Fruits, will show how to customise reward strategies to consistently attract and retain talent while thriving in a competitive environment.

Lee will share his lessons and experiences from launching and growing MBG, which now has 31 outlets and over 300 employees. His discussion will also present systems that can address the ROI of total rewards strategies.

The presentation entitled “Evolving total rewards strategy amidst current economic headwinds” will trace the latest compensation & benefits trends as well as their effects on pay and benefits in the region.

During the discussion, Liana Attard, Asia consulting leader for employee health & benefits at Mercer Marsh Benefits, will weave the critical factors and unique approaches in creating a compelling employee value proposition.
