Starting 30 September 2025, eligible Hong Kong residents only need to face the cameras to complete arrival immigration clearance, without the need to present any documents.
Hong Kong's Immigration Department (ImmD) has announced the launch of the ‘Face Easy e-Channel’ service for Hong Kong residents at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) today (30 September 2025).
From today, Hong Kong residents aged 11 or above, who choose to use HKIA’s ‘Flight Token’ with any of the following valid documents upon departure, and subsequently arrive at HKIA with the same document, are eligible to perform automated arrival clearance at Face Easy e-Channel service:
- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Passport;
- HKSAR Document of Identity for Visa Purposes;
- Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents (Commonly known as ‘Home Visit Permit’) with Hong Kong Identity Card number printed on the back;
- Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents (Non-Chinese Citizen) with Hong Kong Identity Card number printed on the back.
When using the Face Easy e-Channel service, eligible Hong Kong residents only need to face the cameras, and arrival immigration clearance will be completed upon successful verification of identity via facial recognition technology.
Throughout the entire process, there will be no need for them to present any documents or the 'Contactless e-Channel' encrypted QR code.
Steps to use the Face Easy e-Channel Service:
- Look at the camera in front of the Face Easy e-Channel (no need to present documents);
- The gate doors will open after verifying the eligibility;
- After entering the Face Easy e-Channel, look at the camera for facial verification; and
- The gate doors will open after successful verification of identity. Passenger can then leave the Face Easy e-Channel and complete the arrival clearance.
While documents are not required during the process, Hong Kong residents are still required to carry their valid Hong Kong identity cards when using the Face Easy e-Channel Service. Moreover, they can still continue to use fingerprint verification technology for automated immigration clearance, or traditional counters for immigration clearance.
