The Transport Department advises the public and visitors to plan cross-boundary trips well in time, both before and after the holiday.
Tuen Ng Festival, also known as Dragon Boat Festival, is around the corner (tomorrow, 19 June 2026).
To facilitate the holding of dragon boat races, special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in Hong Kong’s Southern District and Tai Po before (18 June 2026) and during the holiday (19 June 2026):
Southern District
Hoi Fung Path and Stanley Link Road will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic from 6am to 9pm on 19 June, except for local residents, police, and emergency vehicles.
The effective period of pedestrian precincts in the area will also be adjusted on 19 June as follows:
- Stanley Main Street: 7am to 11pm
- Stanley New Street and Stanley Market Road: 7am to 9pm
Adjustments to public transport services will be made on 19 June as follows:
- Citybus special route No. 73S (Stanley Village to Ocean Park Station) will operate from 4.30pm to 8pm, with additional departures subject to demand;
- The services of Citybus route Nos. 6, 6X, 14, 65, 73, and 260 will be strengthened or adjusted subject to passenger demand and traffic conditions, and the first departure of Citybus route No. 260 from Central (Exchange Square) will be advanced to 6.45am;
- The service of Hong Kong Island green minibus (GMB) route No. 40 will be suspended from 6am to 7pm, while route No. 40X will be strengthened accordingly;
- The kaito ferry service between Aberdeen Promenade and Ap Lei Chau will be suspended from 7am to 5pm; and
- Some bus stops, GMB stands, and taxi stands in the vicinity of Stanley, Repulse Bay, and Aberdeen will be temporarily suspended or relocated in phases.
Tai Po
Dai King Street, Dai Hei Street, and the section of Dai Kwai Street south of Dai Cheong Street will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic from 6pm on 18 June to 5pm on 19 June, except for taxis, emergency vehicles, and those vehicles authorised by the Police on site.
During this period, KMB route No. 72A (Tai Wai Station – Tai Po Industrial Estate) (both bounds) will be diverted, omitting Dai King Street, Dai Hei Street, and the section of Dai Kwai Street south of Dai Cheong Street. The bus stops on the above road sections will concurrently be suspended.
In line with these arrangements, a temporary taxi pick-up/drop-off area will be provided on the section of Dai Hei Street west of Dai Kwai Street from 7am to 5pm on 19 June.
Due to road closures, the Transport Department (TD) anticipates significant traffic congestion in the concerned areas. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should stay patient, drive with care, and follow on-site instructions from the Police.
The TD also appeals to the public to make use of public transport services as far as possible to avoid traffic congestion and unnecessary delay.
The TD also said the passenger and vehicle traffic at land-based boundary control points (BCPs) is expected to increase significantly before and after the Tuen Ng Festival holiday, especially amidst the inbound peak on 21 June (Sunday) afternoon and evening, when waiting times for public transport services are likely to be longer. Cross-boundary travellers are advised to plan their trips in advance, allow sufficient travelling time, and avoid peak hours where possible.
To cope with the expected demand, the TD has coordinated with local and cross-boundary public transport operators (PTOs) to strengthen their services during the period for the convenience of residents and visitors, including:
- The train services of MTR's East Rail Line between Admiralty and Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau Stations will be enhanced at different times from 18 to 21 June based on passenger demand;
- The train service of the Hong Kong Section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link between Hong Kong West Kowloon and designated Mainland stations will operate additional temporary train trips on 19 and 21 June;
- The frequencies of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) shuttle bus (Gold Bus) and the Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang cross-boundary shuttle bus (Yellow Bus) will be increased to an average of about one minute and two minutes respectively during peak hours;
- The quota of cross-boundary coaches will be increased to strengthen services; and
- The frequency of local franchised bus B routes connecting various land-based BCPs will also be increased beyond the normal weekend level, and the operators concerned will reserve sufficient vehicles and manpower to meet passenger demand.
Travellers using the HZMB to Zhuhai should note that the temporary link bridge connecting the HZMB Zhuhai Port and Qinglu South Road has been closed to all traffic. Traffic conditions in and around Zhuhai Port are expected to be very busy during holiday peak periods. Passengers are encouraged to use public transport services as far as possible, plan their trips early, allow sufficient travelling time, and remain patient while waiting.
Motorists of cross-boundary private cars should also be aware that special traffic arrangements may be implemented at the Lok Ma Chau Control Point and Shenzhen Bay Port, subject to actual traffic conditions, before and after the Tuen Ng Festival, to secure smooth access for public transport vehicles to the above BCPs. Drivers should pay extra attention to variable message signs and traffic signs along the roads.
The public may refer to the TD's website, the “HKeMobility” mobile application, the Security Bureau's “Easy Boundary”, or passenger notices issued by relevant public transport operators or departments of BCPs for the latest information. They should also pay attention to the latest traffic news through radio or television.
