Designing an impactful leadership strategy

Global leadership strategy expert, Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), has confirmed its participation in Asia’s only regional learning and development conference for HR leaders and senior L&D specialists, Training & Development Asia.

CCL will lead a session to show the conference delegates how to design a leadership development strategy which has real impact.

Training & Development Asia 2016 is a two-day regional conference for HR generalists and senior learning & development specialists which takes place in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in June.

“With today's stale job market limiting employees' mobility, executives have a unique opportunity to boost the motivation and productivity of their top talent without spending lots of money,” said Dr Roland Smith, senior vice president APAC and managing director, Center for Creative Leadership. “The organisational pipeline of key people and future leaders is more important now than ever.”

Smith will head a keynote address titled “Refining your high potential leadership and talent strategy for impact” in which he will shed light on how organisations can design and implement a top-down training approach that is critical to their talent pipeline, and how high potential in-house development can be incorporated into the organisation’s leadership strategy without neglecting organisation-wide development.

“Yet the talent management processes in many companies are missing the mark,” said Smith. “They see talent management as something done to and for high-potential employees, in service of the organisation’s needs.”

Smith added that another emerging perspective is the key to effective talent management: the view from inside the pipe.

Smith is an accomplished author with two books Talent Conversations: What They Are, Why They’re Crucial, And How To Do Them Right and Influence to his credit.

In his role as a senior business leader as well as a leading faculty for the Leadership At The Peak programme for C-suite executives, Smith has been heavily involved with initiatives around global talent, global senior executive engagement, high performing teams as well as notable research on the paradoxes of leadership development in Asia, India and South Africa, in addition to guiding CCL’s regional strategy and operations in Asia Pacific.

Smith’s past appointments within CCL include being an executive and organisational coach, and in leading CCL’s legal sector and professional service practice.

Prior to joining CCL, Smith was President of a US consulting firm focusing on addressing organisational performance and talent management. He is also a Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award examiner and judge for the Louisiana & Idaho Quality Awards.
