DBS Bank has announced it will reward male employees who complete the 10-year National Service Unit Training cycle with $3,000 in cash.
With active NS men representing around 60% of the bank’s Singaporean and Permanent Resident male workforce, that’s a few people who will benefit from the new reward, which is being granted on top of the NS HOME (National Service Housing, Medical and Education) Award from the government.
Theresa Phua, Singapore head of human resources for the bank, said the bank commends NS men who have taken time away from their families to “serve the nation”.
“We want to do our part to recognise their contributions and we hope this award can be used for their family and lifestyle activities,” she said.
“Through a holistic people engagement programme, we hope to be increasingly known as an employer of choice in the region.”

The new initiative will come under the bank’s benefits programme, which includes iFlex@DBS, qa policy that allows staff to claim expenses incurred for health, lifestyle and family needs up to an annual limit.
Other benefits include a baby bonus of $1,200 to all female and married male employees for each newborn or adopted newborn, as well as encouragement to leave the office at 5pm, an hour early, on Fridays.
Two days of family leave and a half-day birthday leave is available to all staff as well.
