The longtime FedEx leader will take charge of the Philippines business after more than five years leading operations in Indonesia.
FedEx has named Garrick Thompson (pictured above) as its new Managing Director for the Philippines, returning him to a market where he previously held leadership roles in operations and sales.
Taking on the role following Maribeth Espinosa's retirement, Thompson will lead more than 1,300 employees and steer the company’s local operations. A key part of his focus will be on improving the customer experience, and helping more Philippine businesses reach overseas markets through cross-border trade.
He will also oversee the Asia Pacific Trade Facilitation Center, which supports customs clearance, trade compliance, and cargo documentation for markets across Asia Pacific, as well as the US, Canada, and Europe.
Thompson arrives from Indonesia, where he had been Managing Director of FedEx Indonesia since July 2021. During his time in Jakarta, he was responsible for the company’s strategy, operations, and customer experience across the country.
His FedEx journey began in New Zealand in 2007, when he joined as a human resources specialist. He later moved into operations roles in New Zealand and the Philippines, before taking on the position of Senior Manager for Philippines Sales. In that role, he led the sales team through a period of revenue growth and customer expansion in 2021 and 2022.
Over the course of his career, Thompson has worked across HR, operations, and commercial leadership. He has also received FedEx’s Five Star Award, the company’s highest internal honour for leadership, business results, and teamwork.
Back in the Philippines, Thompson will also be responsible for overseeing FedEx’s investments in the market, including the expansion of its Clark facility – a transshipment hub for the company, helping to strengthen connections across the region as FedEx pursues its wider growth plans in Southeast Asia.
