51% of Singapore marketers plan to change jobs in 2015

Marketing professionals in Singapore are the most dissatisfied with their jobs, compared with other countries in Asia Pacific.

This was one of the key insights from a study conducted by font, which surveyed 276 marketing, digital, communications and creative professionals across Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and New Zealand.

It found 51% of marketing professionals in Singapore are planning to leave their jobs in 2015, higher than the Asia Pacific average of 42%.

Marketers from New Zealand came in at second place, with 43% stating they were considering a job departure in 2015, followed by both Malaysia and Hong Kong at 40%.

“It’s important to re-evaluate your professional goals for the year ahead, but professionals must think long-term and try to work with management to solve any problems before deciding to change jobs so they don’t find themselves in the same position a year later,” Priya Bala, regional director at font, said.

“The Christmas period is a great chance for employees to show commitment and drive by speaking with employers about their desired career direction. Managers and HR teams should also communicate with staff about development opportunities and company plans – if employees can see where their career is headed, they are more likely to stay committed and motivated to develop with the company.”

Indeed, the Christmas festive season was highlighted as a significant period for re-evaluating career plans.

Almost seven out of 10 (69%) of marketing professionals in Singapore stated they would reconsider their job options in that time frame. This was again higher than the regional average of 63%.

The report attributed the currently high levels job dissatisfaction in Asia Pacific to pay and benefits (39%).

“While the results showcased underlying workplace dissatisfaction, marketers could be perked up with Christmas gifts and the ideal option being a cash bonus, as indicated by 33% of respondents,” the report stated.

“Marketers also shared that additional days off (26%) and a company Christmas meal (24%) would be nice gifts to celebrate the holiday season.”
