The new SkillsFuture Earn and Learn programme is currently offering 150 vacancies to graduates of local polytechnics and Institute of Technical Education (ITE).
Launching the programme, Dr Amy Khor, senior minister of State for Manpower and Health said it will be rolled out first for the food manufacturing industry in April this year, followed by seven other sectors over the next few months.
61 companies have currently signed up for the programme . These include both MNCs as well as SMEs, such as Charles & Keith, Wing Tai, and L’Oreal Singapore among others.
Dr. Khor added this initiative part of a national effort to provide all Singaporeans with opportunities to advance in their careers through skills, regardless of their starting points and qualifications.
The programme is specifically designed to give graduating students a head-start in careers related to their field of study, and will span a year to a year and a half.
It involves on-the-job training, mentorship, facilitated learning, in-company projects in order to provide fresh graduates with the skills to better respond to industry needs.

"For SkillsFuture to succeed, employers have to value skills and be prepared to invest in helping workers achieve skills mastery. They need to offer meaningful and attractive career progression pathways that are built upon skills. This is particularly so in a tight labour market, in order to attract and retain talent," Dr.Khor stated.
She added that for workers to attain skills mastery, they need to take ownership in planning for their own skills and career development throughout their careers.
