Up the ranks: Frank-Uwe Ungerer, DHL Express Singapore

With effect from 1 January 2016, DHL Express has announced the appointment of Frank-Uwe Ungerer as managing director of DHL Express Singapore.

He will succeed Herbert Vongpusanachai, who has taken on the position of senior vice president of DHL Express Hong Kong & Macau.

For his current role, Ungerer has relocated to Singapore, from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and will report directly to Ken Lee, CEO, DHL Express Asia Pacific.

Commenting on Ungerer's appointment Lee said: “Asia Pacific is an important growth engine for DHL Express, where Singapore’s role is especially strategic as the regional logistics and transport hub. We are very excited to have an outstanding leader like Frank join the Singapore team to further grow the business."

"With 25 years of multicultural experience having worked in logistics across countries including Germany, Russia, China and Greece, Frank brings with him in-depth industry knowledge and valuable management skills to drive the team towards success and bring DHL Express Singapore to greater heights,” he added.

Ungerer joined DHL in 2003 as country manager of DHL Express Russia and has since held various positions in the firm.

In his most recent role as country manager of DHL Express in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), he was in charge of DHL Express' day-to-day regional operations for close to six years, leading the business to exceptional performance and significantly strengthening its market leadership.

Excited to take on his new role, Ungerer said: “As a mature market committed to staying at the forefront of global logistics, Singapore is well positioned for exciting opportunities ahead in a vibrant region with fast-developing emerging markets such as Vietnam and Myanmar".

"With the completion of the DHL Express South Asia Hub in 2016, Singapore will become an even more important gateway to us. The future is promising and I’m extremely excited to set new milestones with my passionate and dedicated team,” he added.
